Strategic Priority 6

Nurture and Strengthen PEDC's Backbone Infrastructure and Leadership

Strengthen the well-being, leadership sustainability, and organizational effectiveness of PEDC's Executive Directors, Backbone Team, and Board of Directors by creating the conditions that support wellness, belonging, collaboration, professional development, and long-term organizational growth.

Strategic Narrative

The success and sustainability of PEDC's mission depend upon the health, effectiveness, and resilience of the people who lead, coordinate, and steward the work. As a statewide collective impact organization advancing educator diversity and culturally relevant and sustaining education, PEDC's ability to create lasting systems change requires strong leadership, a thriving organizational culture, and a sustainable infrastructure capable of supporting continued growth, innovation, and impact.

The work of advancing equity, disrupting systemic barriers, and leading transformational change can be both deeply meaningful and deeply demanding. The complexity of collective impact work requires leaders and staff who are supported not only professionally, but also personally and holistically. To sustain the movement over the long term, PEDC must intentionally cultivate a culture that prioritizes wellness, healing, belonging, connection, and collective care while maintaining high levels of organizational effectiveness and accountability.

This strategic priority recognizes that organizational health and mission impact are inseparable. When leaders, staff, board members, and partners feel valued, supported, connected, and empowered, they are better positioned to lead courageous conversations, build meaningful relationships, navigate complexity, and sustain transformational change. PEDC therefore commits to embedding healing-centered engagement, culturally affirming practices, wellness supports, and opportunities for personal and professional growth throughout the organization.

At the same time, PEDC's continued growth requires intentional investments in leadership development, succession planning, governance, operational systems, and organizational infrastructure. As the organization expands its reach and influence, it must strengthen its internal capacity to support increasingly complex initiatives, partnerships, staffing structures, and statewide leadership responsibilities. Building sustainable systems and leadership pipelines will ensure that PEDC remains resilient, adaptive, and effective regardless of changes in personnel, funding landscapes, or external conditions.

Looking toward 2030 and beyond, PEDC seeks to position itself as a recognized leader in educator wellness, healing and human-centered leadership, organizational sustainability, and workforce retention. Through research, thought leadership, partnerships, and the dissemination of promising practices, PEDC will contribute to broader conversations about how educational organizations can cultivate environments where educators, leaders, and communities not only survive but thrive.

By investing in the human dignity and respect, well-being, growth, leadership, and sustainability of our people and systems, PEDC will strengthen its ability to model and fulfill its mission, deepen its impact, and sustain the movement for educator diversity and culturally relevant and sustaining education across Pennsylvania and beyond.

Organizational health and mission impact are inseparable. When leaders, staff, board members, and partners feel valued, supported, connected, and empowered, they are better positioned to lead courageous conversations, build meaningful relationships, navigate complexity, and sustain transformational change.
